PURPOSE:This book has been written by ex students who are now health professionals, for students. We know because we've been there! We have first hand knowledge of every step of the process of gaining entry to a Graduate Medical Course. The purpose of this study guide is to share our experiences with you and provide a comprehensive outline encompassing all areas required to understand, organise, prepare for and sit the GAMSAT. Our goal has been to get as much information as possible into one place as well as to give you a few tips and the low down on what you can really expect. TIP #1: The GAMSAT is not a normal exam. For most people, TEXTBOOKS WILL NOT BE ENOUGH! The exam is about more than memorising facts from a textbook. A lot of facts will be provided to you in the exam. It is what you do with the facts, how you use them, interpret them and apply them that will make the difference and can put you ahead ! TIP #2: Be smart about your study!
TIP #3: GAMSAT questions are similar in some ways from year to year. There are certain concepts that are repeatedly examined. We have identified 25 science topics that are commonly examined in Section III of the GAMSAT. We have then written example questions in the same GAMSAT style. Step by step answers are provided for the example questions. Finally, there are practice questions at the end of the MediRed GAMSAT Preparation Study Guide for Section III. Try these under exam conditions and on exam today it could well seem familiar! TIP #4: This is a multiple choice exam. Strategy is everything! If you don't know where to start with a question, there are ways to approach it that can increase your chances well above the 25% random guess. We share these with you in our chapter on MCQ strategy and then show you how to apply them to our example questions. CONTENT:The MediRed GAMSAT Preparation Study Guide is presented as 2 books, each with over 200 A4 pages. We begin with general information on the GAMSAT exam, the entry process to medical school and a little about what to expect once you get there. We have included facts, tips and anecdotes and tried to include information relevant to people from a variety of backgrounds. Learn a strategy for answering multiple choice questions- there is a strategy that gives you an advantage! The MediRed GAMSAT Preparation Study Guide then takes you through each of the three sections of the GAMSAT.
