ABOUT US “Our Knowledge”

So what makes us different? We know because we have been there! We want to share our knowledge with you about the GAMSAT, medical school and beyond. We have sat the GAMSAT, we have studied and succeeded in medical school and we are now living and working as doctors. It is our passion to help you succeed in the GAMSAT and allow you to follow your passion to be a doctor!
 
This is now our 6th year helping people get into medicine and the fourth edition of our study manuals. MediRed has helped many people achieve their dream of becoming a doctor! (See our testimonials page.) We have listened to what you want in GAMSAT preparation and have delivered a range of great new products! By popular demand we are now again offering our intensive weekend training course for Section I and II of the GAMSAT to ensure that you are completely prepared for exam day!

Dr Blake O’Brien was awarded the 2005 University Medal for Medicine, graduating from the University of Queensland with First Class Honours.  His exceptional academic achievements were further rewarded with the William Nathaniel Robertson Medal and the Lillian Cooper prize for graduating top of medicine.
 
Blake also excelled in his undergraduate science study at the University of Queensland.  He was twice awarded the Dean’s Commendation for High Achievement and achieved a 6.4 GPA.  This led to research into ovarian cancer and melanoma at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research.
 
In addition to his outstanding academic success, Blake is well known as an engaging and skilful speaker.  He has twice been invited to speak at functions in the Queensland Legislative Chamber.  He captained the Queensland debating team and represented Australia in the World Schools’ Debating Championship.  He has coached hundreds of Queensland school students in the art of speech writing and constructing an argument.
 
Blake has a passion and a gift for teaching. He is an associate lecturer in Pathology at the University of Queensland. In 2000 he worked with the Queensland Department of Education as a tutor for indigenous school students.  He has taught English to students from Year 6 to Year 12.   Blake developed a learning guide for biochemistry that was implemented at the University of Queensland and in Brunei.
 
Blake is currently working in a major tertiary hospital as a registrar in anatomical pathology.  He is a member of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia

Dr Lisa Gotley is a senior registrar in paediatrics at a tertiary hospital in Brisbane. Lisa graduated in 2002 with an MBBS (First Class Honours) from the University of Queensland, receiving the John F Dunkley Memorial Prize in Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology. She is a specialty trainee of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and an Associate Lecturer for the University of Queensland, teaching and training junior doctors and medical students.
 
Prior to entering medicine, Lisa completed a Bachelor of Science Degree at the University of Queensland. During this degree she was awarded multiple Dean of the Faculty of Biological and Chemical Sciences Commendations for High Achievement, graduating with a GPA of 6.74. Lisa has always been interested in mathematics and the sciences, being involved with the Australian Mathematics Olympiad throughout her senior school years. She placed first in Australia in the Australian Mathematical Olympiad Committee Mathematics Competition in 1994, and was a gold medalist in the Australian National Chemistry Analysis Competition.
 
Lisa has tutored a large variety of mathematics, science and English subjects at both secondary and tertiary level. She has been successful in many multiple choice style exams being the only ever national winner of the University of New South Wales Mathematics Competition in 1990 with a perfect score as well as receiving medals in National Science (Esso) and Mathematics (Westpac) competitions.
 

 
 
 
Dr Bryan Day has a PhD in the field of medicine and works at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research. His research involves novel therapeutic targets in brain tumour stem cells. Bryan was awarded a University of Queensland School of Medicine scholarship and has Honours in Science from the University of Queensland. Bryan also has a background in nutrition and dietetics with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Consumer Science) from the University of Newcastle and has worked at the Wesley Private Hospital in Brisbane. He has extensive experience in vocational training and interview skills techniques with a Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment.
 
 
 




 
Ms Lisa O’Brien has a Masters degree in Genetic Counseling. She was awarded First Class Honours in Biochemistry at the University of Queensland for her research in the field of genetics. Lisa has worked as a scientist at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research, Griffith University and the Princess Alexandra Hospital. She now has a combined role in chemical pathology and genetic counseling in a major Queensland tertiary hospital.
